Proposed Nairobi Adventist Hospital (Phase I) on L.R. No. 23257, Karura.

I. INTRODUCTION
The Seventh Day Adventist Church, through the Central Kenya Conference (CKC - hereinafter referred to as the Church), is desirous of developing Phase 1, as an 'Out-patient', of what is to be a referral, teaching, training and counseling hospital at Karura.

2. LOCATION
The site for the Proposed Hospital is a plot measuring four decimal seven (4.7) acres, referenced as L.R. No. 23257, that is situated approximately 5 kilometers to the north-west of the Nairobi Central Business District, in the Neighborhood of Karura.
3. TOPOGRAPHY
The site gently dips from either widths fronted by the Main Road and the cul de sac Back Lane that Tees with the Access Road off the Main Road. The dip does present a challenge in terms of Surface Drainage.
5. ACCESS
The main (and only) access will be off the Arboretum Drive - which is quite windy and narrow - hence no fast traffic. But entry into the plot is quite tight due to the narrow plot frontage, compounded by the steep slope.
7. PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
The Client is committed to adhering to planning and architectural design criteria that ensures environmental soundness and sustainability.
9. VENTILATION & LIGHTING
The proposed schematic design aims at achieving maximum natural ventilation and lighting in virtually all of the spaces. Artificial light and mechanical ventilation will only be installed where the nature of the activity so dictates.
11. THERMAL CONSIDERATION
Because of the plot axis, it is not possible to orient all openings to the North- South. Therefore, deep roof overhangs have been employed to cut down on direct sun penetration, with its attendant glare and heat. Thus the design can afford to have the expansive windows to allow for vies to the outside as well, aside from lighting and ventilating the interiors.
12. CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS & SCHEDULE OF FINISHES.
Floor finishes will be polished granitto tiles, and unpolished granitto tiles to entry lobbies and rustic ceramic tiles for wet areas.
